Roofing Services in Bronzeville, Chicago
Historic greystones and boulevard architecture with significant preservation activity.
What we are called out for in Bronzeville
Bronzeville carries an architecturally significant stock of greystone two-flats and three-flats, rowhouses, and substantial boulevard buildings from the 1890s through the 1920s, much of it within designated historic districts. Roofs are low-slope behind masonry parapets, frequently with elaborate cornices and decorative stonework at the roofline. There is also a growing volume of rehabilitation and new infill construction, and vacant or long-deferred buildings undergoing restoration where the roof is often the first thing that has to be addressed.
Restoration work is a large share of what we do here, and on a long-deferred building the roof and the masonry parapet usually need to be addressed together - a coping joint that has been open for years has let water into the wall, not just the building. Decorative cornice-to-roof terminations require careful detailing. Historic district designation affects visible material choices at the roofline.
